PAH-FEST:New Mexico 2006

July 5-9 in Grants, New Mexico

PAH NATION and the Cibola Arts Council are proud to announce the first annual PAH-Fest, a four day media extravaganza taking place in Grants, New Mexico. PAH-Fest 2006 will feature alternative and grass-roots story-telling through the use of today's latest technology, celebrating the stories and voices of everyday people.

Festival Features

Team Mobiflicks
Teams will get a chance to make 6 minute movie during the festival. You provide the story and the team, and PAH-Fest will provide the rest: travel, lodging, a prosumer camera and editing system, plus a one-day crash course to help you prepare for production. All finalist films will be screened during a festival event. The winning film and runner-up will be announced, and the winning team will discuss the process of making their film, and take questions from the audience. Teams will be eligible to win cash prizes and a computer editing system!

Hey Rebels and Rough-necks! If your team was not chosen for participation in the Team Mobiflicks competition, or you spaced out on the whole registration thing, you can still tell your digital story and enter it under the "Outlaw Category." Just show up in Grants, NM on July 5th with your own camera, editing system, 3 friends, and whatever else you need to make your movie. Hand in your film along with the other contestants, and you'll have a shot at winning the cash prize!

Mobile Phone Art/ Webcam Art
Show up on site in Grants, NM, armed with your mobile phone camera or your laptop/webcam, on an announced date and time to make your movie on that day! You will be given a "surprise topic" that morning in a special unveiling ceremony.

Finalists will be screened in the Home Entertainment Department at the Grants Wal-Mart during one day of the festival. The winning films and runner ups will be announced at a festival special event, where the winning filmmakers will discuss the process of making their film and take questions from the audience. Cash prize will be awarded for the winning piece!

Technology Treasure Hunt
Kids 18 and under will embark on a high-tech treasure hunt within the town of Grants using different types of portable technology devices to look for clues. The hunt will be comprised of several segments, each segment requiring the contestants to successfully utilize a particular type of portable technology device:  Mobile phone, gaming device, iPod, etc.  Each device will be used to find a clue, that leads to the next segment. Scholarships will be awarded to the winner(s).

The PAH NATION “Keeping The Torch Lit” Award
Each year during, PAH NATION honors an individual of distinctive vision. Dubbed the “Keeping the Torch Lit Award”, this Honoree has created a compelling and significant body of work that exemplifies both a spirit of strong individuality and a commitment to the greater human spirit.  Festivites will include nightly screenings of the Honoree’s work followed by a themed party, and of course the Awards Ceremony. This year's Award goes to George Kuchar.

The Bugsy Kahn Award
In honor of Bugsy Siegel and Genghis Kahn, this award will go to a festival participant who best embodies the spirit of the PAH-Fest: Looking Forward Without Fear.  The recipient will be determined by the mythical ‘PAH’.
